Comfort is nice. Comfort is good. Is there something bad about being comfortable?
Don’t you just love to snuggle on the couch or under the quilt and get really cosy and comfortable? Isn’t it really important to sit comfortably when you are working at the computer? And if you don’t take care of your comfort when doing physical work or exercise, aren’t you risking injuring yourself?
But somehow, the word comfort has been twisted to mean something bad. It’s a term you use to tell yourself off for being lazy, selfish or greedy. You feel a bit guilty for staying in your ‘comfort zone’, for choosing a ‘comfortable life’, for eating ‘comfort food’.
What is ‘comfort food’? It’s often food that reminds you of your childhood, food that made you feel special, nurtured, loved. Foods such as sticky sweet puddings, creamy pasta, buttery mash, chocolate, lollies, ice cream, pizza and potato chips. Whatever it is, it’s unlikely to be salad, juice, tempeh or wholegrain cereals! Isn’t it the case that, although this type of food feels comforting at the time, it often has the effect of making you feel sluggish and heavy afterwards? Not to mention guilty about the potential effects on your weight and health!
Wouldn’t it be better if comfort food offered real benefits, both at the time of eating, and later? What if could warm and nourish, offer the gifts of feeling nurtured and loved, and leave you with a lightness and energy that both body and spirit appreciate?
We believe that you can have it all: the pleasure of eating and the knowledge that what you are eating is both good for your body and spirit. Divine Vegan food is delicious without being sinful!
